Global Film Initiative

In its continuing effort to promote original filmmaking by individuals from around the world, the Global Film Initiative is pleased to announce the Winter 2012 cycle of its feature-film Production Grants program. Applications will be accepted from October 31, 2011 to January 16, 2012.

Global Film Initiative production grants are awarded twice a year, in winter and summer, to filmmakers whose work exhibits artistic excellence, authentic self-representation and accomplished storytelling. The granting program furthers the Initiative's mission of contributing to the development of local film industries while offering audiences a variety of cultural perspectives on daily life around the world. Monies received through the Initiative's granting program are used to support completion of film production, and to subsidize post-production costs, such as laboratory and sound mixing fees and access to modern editing systems.

Application deadline: January 16, 2012. Applications will be accepted starting October 31, 2011.

The Global Film Initiative accepts grant applications from countries in the following regions: Africa, Asia (excluding Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan), the Caribbean (excluding Cuba), Central and Eastern Europe (excluding European Union), Latin America, the Middle East (excluding Iran) and Oceania (excluding Australia and New Zealand).

INTERNATIONAL CALL
International Call accepts:

  • Single programs of standard broadcast length (one-hour). In rare cases, when a filmmaker’s skills, subject, and story structure warrant it, ITVS will consider programs at feature lengths.
  • Works-in-progress, i.e. projects that have already begun production
  • Programs that can be completed within one year of contract
  • Co-production projects with either international broadcast partner(s) or co-productions with producers from different countries

International Call does not accept:

  • Subject matter based in the United States, lifestyle, or children’s programming
  • Proposals for completed projects seeking acquisition and distribution
  • Series proposals or fictional dramas
  • Projects intended solely for theatrical release

There is one funding round per year. Applicants may apply for only one project per call. The entire proposal review process can take up to five months. Only one to two percent of International Call applicants will receive funding.
International Call is not a grant; ITVS International provides a co-production investment in the program.
International Call is an initiative of the International Media Development Fund — a project created by ITVS in partnership with the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
